17.3″ FHD mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation with a 1920 x 1080 IPS display. It runs Windows 11 Pro on an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor paired with 128 GB of DDR4 memory. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB of GDDR5 handles graphics workloads, while storage is provided by a dual NVMe configuration totalling 1 TB.

Suits CAD engineers, not ultraportable buyers

This system targets professionals who need workstation-class graphics and high memory capacity in a 17.3″ chassis. The Quadro P3200 is optimised for CAD and comparable to a GeForce GTX 1060, making it suitable for 3D modelling and rendering tasks. Buyers who prioritise thin-and-light designs or battery life over raw graphics performance should look elsewhere.

128 GB DDR4 maximum memory

The 128 GB DDR4 configuration determines whether this laptop can hold large assemblies, simulation data or multiple virtual machines simultaneously. With four memory slots populated at the factory, there is no room for further expansion. Verify that your workload fits within this ceiling before purchasing.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 128GB DDR4 memory in the Precision 7730 and what step is often missed?

The 128GB DDR4 RAM is already installed from the factory; there are no user-accessible slots, so the common mistake is trying to open the chassis to add more memory.

What maintenance or replacement will the 1TB NVMe SSD need later?

The 1TB NVMe SSD has no moving parts and requires no scheduled maintenance; replacement is only necessary if the drive fails or you need more capacity.

At what point does the Quadro P3200 with 6GB GDDR5 hit its limit during sustained heavy rendering?

The 6GB GDDR5 frame buffer fills first, forcing texture swaps to system memory and reducing performance in large CAD scenes or high-resolution GPU compute tasks.
