Precision 7730 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built for engineers and creators who need professional graphics and large memory capacity. It runs an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 128 GB of DDR4 RAM and a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 GPU with 6 GB GDDR5. Dual M.2 storage provides a 128 GB drive plus a 1 TB NVMe SSD. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Thermals and power in daily use

Dell describes a thermal design intended to keep the system cool under sustained professional workloads. The Quadro P3200 delivers performance comparable to a GeForce GTX 1060 while staying within a mobile power envelope. The 8750H operates at 2.20 GHz base and can reach 4.10 GHz with Turbo Boost, drawing power only when the workload demands it. Fan noise rises during extended render or compute tasks but remains typical for a 17-inch workstation chassis.

Chassis, ports and daily connectivity

The silver and black chassis carries a 17.3-inch FHD IPS panel at 1920 x 1080 with 72% color gamut and a non-touch surface. Physical connections include two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 Type-C, HDMI 2.0, and a headphone/microphone combo jack. A webcam is integrated above the display. The included Dell AC adapter powers the system. The layout supports external monitors and high-speed peripherals without a separate dock.

Questions about this item

How is the 128 GB DDR4 memory installed, and what step is often missed?

The 128 GB DDR4 fills four SO-DIMM slots; the step often missed is seating both clips until they click on every module.

What maintenance or replacement will the 1 TB SSD and 128 GB SSD need later?

Both NVMe drives are wear-rated; plan to replace them once SMART health drops below the vendor threshold.

What limit appears first on the Quadro P3200 6 GB GDDR5 during sustained loads?

The 6 GB GDDR5 frame buffer fills before the GPU core saturates, forcing texture offload to system memory.
