Precision 7730 Mobile Workstation

The Dell Precision 7730 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation running Windows 11 Pro. It combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H six-core processor with 64 GB DDR4 memory and a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics card with 6 GB GDDR5 video memory. Dual M.2 solid-state drives provide 512 GB and 1 TB of storage capacity.

Suited for CAD and 3D workflows

This configuration suits engineers and designers who need certified professional graphics for computer-aided design, simulation or rendering while on the move. The 72 % colour-gamut IPS panel supports colour-accurate review. Buyers who require a touchscreen or a higher-resolution display should look at alternative models.

Quadro P3200 6 GB dedicated GPU

The single specification that decides fit is the NVIDIA Quadro P3200 with 6 GB GDDR5 memory. It delivers workstation-class driver optimisation for CAD and DCC applications and is described by Dell as comparable to a GeForce GTX 1060 in raw throughput. If your software demands more video memory or newer GPU architecture, this unit will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

What does the Thunderbolt 3 port cap at in practice?

Thunderbolt 3 provides up to 40 Gbps bandwidth and supports dual 4K displays or a single 5K display.

What are the physical requirements for adding another M.2 SSD?

The laptop has two M.2 slots; one is occupied by the 512 GB drive and the other by the 1 TB drive, so no free slot remains unless you replace an existing drive.

How is the DDR4 memory installed, and what step do people often get wrong?

The 64 GB DDR4 is factory-installed across two SODIMM slots; a common mistake is buying a single 64 GB module instead of two 32 GB modules for dual-channel operation.
