This Lenovo ThinkPad ultrabook ships new with a 14.0 inch 1920 x 1080 IPS panel and an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor. It includes 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SSD running Windows 10 Pro. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles the display output.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

It suits mobile professionals who need a durable 14 inch chassis with a physical RJ-45 port and multiple USB 3.1 connections for docks or peripherals. Buyers who want a dedicated GPU for rendering or gaming should look elsewhere. Users requiring a touchscreen or a 32 GB memory configuration will not find those features on this specific unit.

Deciding specification: 256 GB SSD capacity

The 256 GB solid state drive determines whether this laptop can hold your active projects and applications without external storage. If your workflow demands 512 GB or 1 TB of internal space, this drive size is the limiting factor. The SSD uses SATA or NVME M.2 form factor depending on the exact T480 or T490 model shipped.

Questions about this item

How do I install an additional M.2 NVME SSD and which screw size do I need?

The laptop uses an M.2 slot supporting SATA or NVME drives; the retaining screw is typically M2 x 3 mm, which is the step most people lose or strip.

What maintenance will the 16 GB DDR4 memory and 256 GB SSD need over time?

The DDR4 memory is soldered and not upgradeable; the SSD can be replaced with another M.2 SATA or NVME drive when capacity or health requires it.

At what point does the Intel UHD Graphics 620 throttle during sustained heavy workloads?

The integrated GPU shares system memory and thermal limits with the i7-8550U, so prolonged 3D or video encoding loads will hit the 15 W package power ceiling first.
