Secure portable storage

The iStorage diskAshur2 1TB Fiery Red is a hardware-encrypted portable hard drive for professionals who must protect sensitive data on the move. A built-in keypad requires a 7-15 digit PIN before the drive becomes visible to any host system. Real-time AES-XTS 256-bit encryption and a Common Criteria EAL4+ ready microprocessor secure every file without software installation.

Silent operation and bus power

The 2.5-inch mechanism draws power solely from the USB 3.1 connection, adding no external power brick to a mobile kit. With no fan and solid-state-style controller electronics, the drive runs silently in normal use. IP56 certification confirms dust-tight and splash-resistant construction for field deployment.

Broad device compatibility

The drive works on any equipment offering a standard USB port, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome, Android, thin clients, zero clients and embedded systems. Backward-compatible USB 3.2 signalling delivers up to 361 MB/s read and 358 MB/s write speeds. Compact dimensions of 0.75 x 4.88 x 3.31 inches and 0.48 lb weight leave bag space free for other gear.

Questions about this item

How do I set up the diskAshur2 and what step do people often miss?

Connect the USB 3.1 cable, then enter a 7-15 digit PIN on the built-in keypad to unlock; the step users miss is confirming the new PIN a second time before the drive becomes visible to the OS.

What part will need replacement first on the diskAshur2?

The internal 2.5" mechanical drive is the only moving component; after several years of daily use its bearings or platters typically wear out before the keypad or AES 256-bit encryption engine.

What performance limit appears first during long transfers on the diskAshur2?

Sustained writes level off at 358 MB/s and reads at 361 MB/s over USB 3.2, so the encryption processor’s throughput ceiling is reached before the USB 3.1 interface saturates.
