Secure portable storage

The iStorage diskAshur2 4TB Black is a PIN-authenticated portable hard drive that uses real-time AES-XTS 256-bit hardware encryption. It requires no software and works on any device with a USB port, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, Chrome, Thin Clients, Zero Clients and embedded systems. The drive is IP56 certified for dust and splash resistance and includes a protective carry case.

Upgrade from unencrypted drives

This drive replaces standard portable hard drives that rely on software encryption or have no protection at all. The jump is worth it when you must meet GDPR, CCPA or HIPAA compliance and need a hardware-certified secure microprocessor rated Common Criteria EAL5+ ready. Without the 7-15 digit PIN, the drive enters a deadlock frozen state that defeats automated attacks.

Sustained transfer behaviour

The USB 3.1 interface delivers up to 160MB/s read and 143MB/s write speeds for moving large datasets. EDGE™ Technology maintains consistent performance during extended sessions rather than peaking only in short bursts. The rugged 2.5-inch form factor weighs .48 lb and measures .75" x 4.88" x 3.31" for reliable operation in mobile environments.

Questions about this item

What physical space does the 2.5-inch drive with dimensions 0.75" x 4.88" x 3.31" need to fit?

The drive measures 0.75 inches high by 4.88 inches wide by 3.31 inches deep and weighs 0.48 lb, so it fits in any 2.5-inch drive bay, laptop bag pocket or desktop dock with at least that clearance.

How do I set up the PIN on the keypad, and what step do users often miss?

Press the unlock key, enter a 7-15 digit PIN, press the unlock key again to confirm, then re-enter the same PIN to verify; the step users miss is the second confirmation press, which finalises the code.

What part will need replacement first on the IP56-rated drive?

The internal mechanical hard drive is the only moving component; the sealed IP56 enclosure and keypad have no user-serviceable parts, so plan to migrate data to a new drive when the HDD reaches end of life.
