Secure portable storage

The iStorage diskAshur2 5TB Red is a hardware-encrypted portable hard drive that unlocks with a 7-15 digit PIN entered on its built-in keypad. It requires no software installation and works with any device that has a USB port, including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, Chrome, thin clients and embedded systems. The drive targets professionals and organisations that must protect sensitive data and demonstrate compliance with regulations such as GDPR, CCPA and HIPAA.

Thermals and power

The 2.5-inch form factor draws power directly from the USB 3.1 connection, so no external adapter is needed. Real-time AES-XTS 256-bit encryption is handled by a dedicated secure microprocessor, which operates within the drive's standard power envelope without adding audible fan noise. The IP56-rated enclosure protects the internal mechanics from dust and water jets, allowing the drive to maintain its thermal characteristics in harsh environments.

Build and daily use

The ruggedised chassis measures .75 by 4.88 by 3.31 inches and weighs .48 lb, fitting easily into the supplied protective carry case. A Common Criteria EAL5+ ready microprocessor triggers a deadlock frozen state after repeated failed PIN attempts, rendering automated attacks ineffective. Backwards-compatible USB 3.2 connectivity delivers up to 160MB/s read and 143MB/s write speeds for rapid file transfers.

Questions about this item

How do I install the iStorage diskAshur2 5TB drive and what step do users often miss?

Connect the USB 3.1 cable to any USB port; the drive powers on automatically. The step users miss is entering a 7-15 digit PIN on the built-in keypad before the drive becomes visible to the operating system. No software installation is required.

What maintenance or replacement will the iStorage diskAshur2 5TB drive need later?

The drive has no user-serviceable parts. If the internal 2.5" hard disk fails after the warranty period, the entire unit must be replaced. The IP56-rated enclosure and keypad are sealed and not designed for field repair.

What limit appears first during sustained transfers on the iStorage diskAshur2 5TB drive?

Sequential throughput caps at 160 MB/s read and 143 MB/s write over USB 3.2. Under continuous heavy workloads the mechanical 2.5" drive and encryption processor will reach those speeds before thermal throttling becomes a factor.
