Mobile workstation with six-core i9

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Generation Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 4 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. The dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics card provides 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed on the Silver chassis.

Straightforward setup with soldered memory

The laptop arrives ready to use with the operating system and drivers installed. The 8 GB of DDR4 memory is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded later. Storage uses an M.2 slot that supports PCIe NVMe or SATA drives. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports handle external displays without adapters.

Dual-fan cooling for sustained workloads

The thermal design uses dual fans to maintain airflow during extended compute or rendering tasks. The Quadro P2000 is certified for professional applications and delivers stable performance under continuous load. The 4 TB SSD provides ample space for large project files without relying on external storage.

Buyers needing user-upgradable RAM or more than 8 GB

This unit cannot accommodate additional memory beyond the factory-soldered 8 GB. The single M.2 slot limits internal storage expansion to one drive. Users requiring Thunderbolt 4 or newer USB standards will not find them here. The 72% colour gamut panel may not suit colour-critical workflows demanding wider coverage.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the i9-8950HK is running at its 2.90 GHz base and 4.80 GHz boost speeds after setup?

Open Task Manager's Performance tab or use Intel XTU to watch the CPU frequency hit 2.90 GHz at idle and climb to 4.80 GHz under load; the six-core processor should show 12 threads active.

Which accessories are included in the box versus what I must buy separately?

The laptop ships with the Dell AC adapter; the 4 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, 8 GB DDR4 RAM, Quadro P2000 4 GB GDDR5, 15.6" FHD IPS panel, Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and Windows 10 Pro are already installed — no extra parts are required for basic operation.

Should I choose the 8 GB DDR4 configuration or upgrade to 32 GB DDR4 for this workstation?

The 8 GB DDR4 module handles everyday CAD and rendering; select 32 GB DDR4 if you run large assemblies, virtual machines or heavy multitasking that can use the extra headroom.
