Mobile workstation for creative professionals

The Dell Precision 5530 pairs an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor with NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics and a 15.6 inch UHD touch display. It targets engineers, designers and analysts who need certified application performance in a portable chassis. Windows 11 Pro is installed and ready for immediate deployment.

Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 connectivity limits

A single Thunderbolt 3 port provides PCIe x4 bandwidth for external GPUs or high-speed storage, while HDMI 2.0 caps external 4K output at 60 Hz. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports handle peripherals, but the platform lacks USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 4 speeds. Wireless relies on the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combo module.

1 TB NVMe storage and 8 GB DDR4 memory headroom

The 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD offers ample space for active projects and large media libraries. Soldered 8 GB DDR4 memory is fixed; the platform supports up to 32 GB total, so multitasking with heavy datasets will require a factory-configured upgrade. Quadro P2000 4 GB GDDR5 VRAM suits moderate 3D workloads but limits complex scene rendering.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD or one of the smaller SATA options like 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB?

The 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD gives the fastest read and write speeds and the most space for large project files. Smaller SATA drives are slower and hold less data.

What does the 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution mean for daily work on the 15.6" screen?

The 3840 x 2160 UHD IPS touch panel shows four times the detail of Full HD, so CAD models, timelines and text stay crisp at 72 % colour gamut.

What can the Thunderbolt 3 port actually drive in practice?

Thunderbolt 3 provides x4 PCIe bandwidth for external GPUs, fast NVMe enclosures or dual 4K displays, plus charging through the same USB-C connector.
