Precision 5530 UHD Touch Mobile Workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor and NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics with 4GB GDDR5 memory. It ships with 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. The 3840 x 2160 IPS touch display covers 72% color gamut. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Sustained Load Behaviour

The cooling system uses dual fans designed to improve airflow and keep the system cool under continuous professional workloads. The hexa-core i9-8950HK operates at a 2.90 GHz base frequency and can reach 4.80 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, supported by 12 MB cache. Dedicated Quadro P2000 graphics maintain stability for extended rendering or simulation sessions.

Installation and Common Issues

The thin InfinityEdge chassis limits internal upgrade access; memory is soldered to 16GB with a 32GB maximum that cannot be reached without specialised service. The single M.2 slot is occupied by the 1TB NVMe drive, so storage expansion requires drive replacement. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports handle external docks and displays, but the compact layout leaves no room for a second internal drive or additional RAM modules.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Precision 5530 get when the i9-8950HK runs at 4.80 GHz all day?

The cooling system uses dual fans designed to improve airflow and keep the system cool under sustained loads from the six-core processor and Quadro P2000 graphics.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports on this laptop?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for the USB-C port and an HDMI 2.0 cable for the full-size HDMI output to drive external displays.

Will my older SATA SSD work alongside the 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 drive already installed?

The specifications list only the M.2 NVMe slot with the 1 TB drive; no 2.5-inch SATA bay is mentioned, so an older SATA SSD cannot be added internally.
