Precision mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th-generation Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It ships with Windows 11 Pro, 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. Professional graphics are provided by a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory.

Six-core i9 upgrade path

This configuration replaces dual-core or quad-core mobile CPUs for users who need higher multi-thread throughput in CAD, simulation or video workflows. The jump is worth it when projects exceed the parallel capacity of four cores and the 4.80 GHz turbo frequency can be sustained by the dual-fan thermal design.

8 GB memory and 512 GB storage headroom

The 512 GB NVMe drive holds the operating system, applications and active project files with room for growth. Eight gigabytes of DDR4 handles moderate assemblies and timelines; larger datasets or concurrent virtual machines will require the 32 GB ceiling supported by the platform.

Questions about this item

What is the maximum DDR4 memory the Precision 5530 can take?

The laptop supports up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory, so the installed 8 GB can be expanded later.

Which screw or clip secures the M.2 SSD when swapping the 512 GB drive?

The M.2 slot uses a single retention screw; removing the bottom cover gives access, and the screw is the step most people forget to reinstall.

When will the NVIDIA Quadro P2000 4 GB GDDR5 need replacement?

The GPU is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced separately; only a full board service would change it.
