Precision 5530 UHD Touch Workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6" mobile workstation with a 3840 x 2160 IPS touchscreen. It runs on an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor at 2.90 GHz with Turbo up to 4.80 GHz. Graphics are handled by a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4GB GDDR5 memory. The system includes 8GB DDR4 RAM and a 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. It ships with Windows 11 Pro.

Suited for colour-critical mobile work.

Creative professionals who need accurate colour on a 72% gamut UHD panel will benefit from the Quadro P2000 and touch input. The Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports support external displays and fast peripherals. Buyers who need more than 8GB of system memory for large simulations or virtual machines should look at a configurable model with higher RAM capacity. The fixed 8GB limits multitasking headroom for heavy workloads.

8GB DDR4 soldered memory caps multitasking

The single specification that decides fit is the 8GB DDR4 configuration, which cannot be upgraded beyond the factory limit. If your workflow regularly exceeds 8GB — such as running multiple VMs, large CAD assemblies, or memory-intensive rendering — this unit will throttle performance. For lighter CAD, 3D modelling, or content creation that stays within 8GB, the i9-8950HK and Quadro P2000 deliver strong mobile throughput.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Thunderbolt 3 dock and what step do people miss?

Connect the dock to the Thunderbolt 3 port, then authorise it in the Windows 11 Pro security prompt; skipping authorisation leaves the port inactive.

What part will need replacement first and when?

The 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD is the only field-replaceable storage; the 8 GB DDR4 is soldered and cannot be upgraded.

What limit appears first during a long render on the Quadro P2000?

The dual-fan thermal design saturates under sustained GPU load, forcing the i9-8950HK to drop below its 4.80 GHz boost clock.
