Precision mobile workstation for demanding workflows

The Dell Precision 5530 combines an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor with NVIDIA Quadro P2000 graphics and 4 GB GDDR5 memory. A 15.6 inch FHD IPS display at 1920 x 1080 resolution covers 72 % colour gamut for accurate visual work. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed on the 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD with 8 GB DDR4 RAM.

Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 expand connectivity

Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port with x4 PCIe lanes and an HDMI 2.0 output support external displays and high-speed peripherals. The single M.2 slot handles the included 512 GB NVMe drive; storage expansion relies on external solutions. Memory tops out at 32 GB DDR4, so buyers who want more RAM must plan for a future upgrade.

Dual-fan cooling sustains performance under load

The thermal design uses two fans to maintain airflow during extended compute or rendering sessions. Base clock runs at 2.90 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost reaching 4.80 GHz when thermal headroom allows. 8 GB of system memory and a single SSD may limit multitasking for buyers who want larger datasets in memory or additional internal storage.

Questions about this item

What limits sustained performance on this i9-8950HK workstation?

The 8 GB DDR4 memory and dual-fan cooling set the practical ceiling for long renders; the CPU can hit 4.80 GHz turbo but only while thermals and RAM headroom allow.

How loud and hot does the Precision 5530 get under all-day load?

Dual fans move air across the i9-8950HK and Quadro P2000 4 GB GDDR5; surface temperatures rise and fan noise becomes audible during extended 3D or compute tasks.

Which port do I need on my dock to drive the 15.6" FHD display and peripherals?

Thunderbolt 3 carries video, data and charging through one cable; the laptop also offers HDMI 2.0 and two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports for legacy gear.
