Mobile workstation with six-core i9

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK six-core processor. It pairs 8 GB of DDR4 memory with a 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD and an NVIDIA Quadro P2000 GPU with 4 GB GDDR5 video memory. Windows 11 Pro is installed and the chassis finishes in platinum silver.

Suits CAD and 3D users; not for heavy multitaskers

Engineers and designers who need certified Quadro drivers for SolidWorks, CATIA or similar ISV applications will benefit from the dedicated 4 GB GDDR5 GPU and the 1920 x 1080 IPS panel covering 72 % colour gamut. Buyers who regularly run large assemblies, virtual machines or memory-hungry rendering queues should look elsewhere because the soldered 8 GB DDR4 cannot be expanded beyond 32 GB and the single 256 GB drive fills quickly.

8 GB soldered DDR4 limits multitasking headroom

The single most decisive specification is the 8 GB of DDR4 memory that ships soldered to the board with no accessible SO-DIMM slot. Although the platform supports up to 32 GB in other configurations, this unit cannot be upgraded past its factory 8 GB, so workloads that exceed that ceiling will throttle or swap to the 256 GB NVMe SSD.
