Mobile workstation with UHD touch display

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation aimed at engineers and designers who need colour-accurate visuals and professional graphics in a thin chassis. Its 3840 x 2160 IPS touchscreen covers 72% of the colour gamut and supports multi-touch input for direct interaction with CAD or creative applications. A six-core Intel Core i9-8950HK processor running at 2.90 GHz with turbo up to 4.80 GHz drives demanding workloads alongside 16 GB of DDR4 memory.

Build integration with Thunderbolt and HDMI 2.0

The system includes a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P2000 with 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory, freeing the CPU from heavy rendering tasks. A 128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD provides the boot drive, while two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 port and an HDMI 2.0 output handle peripherals and external displays without extra docks. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and the AC adapter is included.

Upgrade from integrated-graphics laptops

This configuration replaces ultraportables that rely on integrated graphics and lower-resolution screens, delivering workstation-class GPU performance and a 4K touch panel in a similar footprint. The jump is worth it when ISV-certified drivers, dedicated video memory and a wide-gamut display are required for daily production. Buyers who need larger local storage or multiple drive bays should consider other models.

Questions about this item

Does the i9-8950HK throttle under sustained multi-core loads?

The six-core i9-8950HK runs at 2.90 GHz base and can reach 4.80 GHz with Turbo Boost; the dual-fan cooling system is designed to maintain airflow during extended workloads.

How loud and hot does the Precision 5530 get during all-day rendering?

Dual fans and heat pipes move air across the CPU and Quadro P2000, keeping surface temperatures manageable and fan noise moderate even under continuous professional graphics loads.

Which ports and cables do I need to drive an external 4K monitor?

Connect a 4K display via the HDMI 2.0 port or the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) interface; both support 3840 x 2160 output without additional adapters.
