VivoBook S712JA-WH54 overview

The ASUS VivoBook S712JA-WH54 is a 17.3-inch laptop built around a 10th-generation Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor with four cores and a 3.6 GHz turbo frequency. It comes with 20GB of DDR4 memory split between onboard and SODIMM modules. The system runs Windows 10 Pro and includes a fingerprint reader plus a backlit keyboard with a numeric keypad.

Storage and connectivity upgrade path

This unit replaces a standard configuration by adding a 2TB PCIe NVMe SSD alongside a 1TB hard drive for a combined 3TB of storage. The jump is worthwhile for users who keep large media libraries or project files locally and want faster boot and application loading without relying on external drives. WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 provide modern wireless connectivity.

Sustained workload behaviour

The integrated Intel UHD graphics and 45W power supply limit performance during extended heavy tasks such as video rendering or large compiles. The 47 WHr battery and 60Hz IPS display are suited to general productivity and streaming rather than continuous high-load sessions. Thermal throttling will appear sooner than on laptops with discrete GPUs and higher-wattage cooling.

Questions about this item

Does the 17.3 inch chassis have an open SO-DIMM slot for the 16 GB DDR4 module?

The 20 GB configuration uses 4 GB soldered to the board plus a 16 GB DDR4 SO-DIMM already installed, so the single expansion slot is occupied.

Is the 2 TB PCIe NVMe SSD mounted in an M.2 slot or a 2.5 inch bay?

The 2 TB drive uses an M.2 slot with PCIe NVMe signalling; the 1 TB HDD occupies the 2.5 inch bay.

Can the 47 WHr 3-cell battery be replaced without removing the motherboard?

The battery is secured inside the base cover and can be swapped after removing the bottom screws and disconnecting the cable.
