17.3" FHD IPS laptop with dual storage

This ASUS VivoBook S712JA-WH54 is a 17.3-inch Full HD IPS laptop powered by a 10th Generation Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor. It combines 20GB of DDR4 memory with a 128GB SATA SSD and a 1TB hard drive. The system ships with Windows 11 Pro and includes a fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity.

Suited for office work and media consumption

The large 17.3-inch display and dual-drive layout make it practical for users who want ample screen space and a mix of fast boot storage plus high-capacity file storage. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics limits the machine to light graphical workloads, so buyers who need discrete graphics performance for gaming or creative rendering should look elsewhere.

20GB DDR4 memory in a mixed configuration

The 20GB total consists of 4GB soldered on the board plus a 16GB SO-DIMM module, which means only the SO-DIMM portion can be upgraded later. This detail decides whether the laptop meets a buyer’s future memory requirements.

Questions about this item

How do I add more storage to the 128GB SATA SSD and 1TB HDD, and what step do people miss?

The laptop uses a 128GB SATA SSD and a 1TB HDD; the SATA M.2 slot is occupied, so adding a second drive requires a 2.5-inch SATA caddy for the HDD bay — buyers often forget the caddy and mounting screws.

Which memory slot can I upgrade later on the 20GB DDR4 configuration?

The 20GB DDR4 memory is split as 4GB soldered onboard plus a 16GB SO-DIMM; only the SO-DIMM slot can be swapped, so future upgrades mean replacing that single module.

At what point does the 45W power supply limit sustained performance on the i5-1035G1?

The 45W adapter and 47Wh battery cap total system power; under long heavy loads the 3.6GHz turbo cannot hold and the chip drops toward its 1.00GHz base to stay within the 45W envelope.
