17.3-inch laptop for everyday multitasking

The ASUS VivoBook S712JA-WH54 pairs a 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-drive layout of 256 GB SATA SSD plus 1 TB HDD. It ships with Windows 10 Pro and a 1920 x 1080 IPS panel. The configuration suits students and office workers who need responsive application switching and ample local storage for documents and media.

Build integration and expansion

The chassis provides USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C, HDMI, two USB 2.0 ports and a microSD reader for peripherals and external displays. Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and Bluetooth 5.1 handle wireless connectivity without extra adapters. The 45 W power supply and 47 Wh three-cell battery support mobile use, while the backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader add convenience for work in varied lighting.

Upgrade path from older dual-core machines

Buyers moving from systems with mechanical drives only will notice faster boot and load times thanks to the SSD portion. The 8 GB memory ceiling limits heavy creative suites or virtualisation workloads, so users needing more RAM or discrete graphics should consider other models. The integrated Intel UHD graphics handles standard video playback and light photo editing but not modern gaming or GPU-accelerated rendering.

Questions about this item

Will the 1.00 GHz base clock throttle under sustained load?

The Core i5-1035G1 runs at a 1.00 GHz base frequency and can boost to 3.6 GHz; sustained workloads will settle at the base clock once thermal limits are reached.

How hot or loud does the 45 W charger and 47 WHr battery get during all-day use?

The 45 W power supply and 3-cell 47 WHr battery are sized for typical office loads; expect warm chassis areas and fan noise under continuous heavy use.

Which DDR4 SO-DIMM slot is free for a memory upgrade?

The laptop ships with 4 GB soldered and a 4 GB DDR4 SO-DIMM installed, leaving no vacant SO-DIMM slot for additional memory.
