ASUS VivoBook S712JA-WH54 17.3" Laptop

The ASUS VivoBook S712JA-WH54 is a 17.3-inch laptop built around a 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor with four cores and a 3.6 GHz turbo frequency. It pairs 8GB of DDR4 memory with a 256GB SATA SSD and a 1TB hard drive for combined speed and capacity. The 1920 x 1080 IPS display, Wi-Fi 6 AX201, Bluetooth 5.1 and a fingerprint reader complete the core feature set for everyday productivity.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This configuration suits office workers, students and home users who want a large screen for documents and web browsing, plus the convenience of a backlit keyboard and Windows Hello fingerprint login. It is not for buyers who need discrete graphics for gaming or rendering, who require faster storage than a SATA SSD delivers, who want multiple high-speed USB-C ports, or who prefer a lighter device for frequent travel.

The specification that decides fit

The single specification that decides whether this is the right part is the Intel UHD integrated graphics paired with a 60 Hz 1920 x 1080 IPS panel. If your workload needs dedicated GPU performance or a higher refresh rate, this laptop will not meet that need; if you only need integrated graphics for general use, the display and GPU combination is adequate.

Questions about this item

How long can the 47 WHr battery sustain the 17.3" 60Hz IPS display at full brightness before needing a recharge?

The 47 WHr battery paired with a 45 W power supply provides typical all-day office use; actual runtime depends on workload, brightness and Wi-Fi 6 activity.

How hot or loud does the chassis get when the Core i5-1035G1 runs at 3.6 GHz turbo for extended periods?

The 10th Gen quad-core processor and integrated UHD graphics share a single fan; under sustained load the keyboard deck warms noticeably and fan noise rises to an audible but not intrusive level.

Which peripherals or cables must I already own to connect an external monitor and wired network?

You need an HDMI cable for the monitor and a USB 3.2 Gen1 to Ethernet adapter for wired networking; the laptop has no built-in RJ-45 port.
