Large-screen laptop for everyday work

The ASUS VivoBook S712JA-WH54 is a 17.3-inch Full HD IPS laptop built around a 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor with four cores and a 3.6 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 20GB of DDR4 memory and a 2TB SATA SSD, running Windows 10 Pro. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics and 60 Hz display suit office tasks, web browsing and media playback.

Thermals and power in daily use

A 45 W power adapter charges the 3-cell 47 Whr battery while the system handles typical productivity loads. The chassis measures 16.00 by 10.06 by 0.62 inches and weighs 5.06 lb, providing enough internal volume for passive heat dissipation during normal operation. Fan noise remains low when the processor stays at base clock during document editing or video streaming.

Build, ports and daily connectivity

The silver aluminium-topped chassis includes a full-size backlit keyboard with numeric keypad and a fingerprint reader integrated into the touchpad. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless peripherals. Wired ports comprise one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, a micro SD reader and a headset jack — no optical drive is fitted.

Questions about this item

How do I upgrade the RAM in the VivoBook S712JA-WH54, and which slot is often overlooked?

The laptop has 4 GB soldered on-board and one SODIMM slot holding a 16 GB DDR4 module; the slot is under the bottom cover and is often missed because the on-board memory cannot be removed.

What maintenance will the 47 WHr battery need after a few years of daily charging?

The 3-cell 47 WHr battery is internal; when runtime drops noticeably you must replace the whole pack, which requires removing the bottom case and disconnecting the cable.

At what point does the 45 W charger become the limiting factor during heavy workloads?

Under sustained load the Core i5-1035G1 can draw more power than the 45 W adapter supplies, so the battery supplements the difference until it depletes, then the CPU throttles.
