Purpose-built workstation

The ASUS VivoBook S712JA-WH54 is a 17.3 inch laptop aimed at professionals who need a large screen for documents and spreadsheets. Its 12GB DDR4 memory and 2TB SATA SSD support multitasking and local file storage. The Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor reaches 3.6 GHz for everyday office workloads. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics handles basic display output only.

Interface and display limits

The 1920 x 1080 IPS panel runs at 60 Hz and does not support touch input. Wireless connectivity uses Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and Bluetooth 5.1 for compatible peripherals. Wired ports include one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C, two USB 2.0 ports and an HDMI output. A micro SD reader and combo audio jack complete the selection.

Capacity and headroom

The 2TB SATA SSD provides ample space for operating system, applications and large project files. Twelve gigabytes of DDR4 RAM, configured as 4GB onboard plus an 8GB module, keeps multiple browser tabs and office suites responsive. Integrated graphics and the 60 Hz panel limit gaming or 3D rendering. Buyers who need discrete GPU performance or higher refresh rates should consider other form factors.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 12 GB DDR4 configuration or is there a larger memory option listed?

This model ships with 12 GB DDR4 (4 GB onboard plus an 8 GB SO-DIMM). No other capacity appears in the specifications, so this is the only version offered.

What does the 3.6 GHz turbo frequency mean for everyday workloads on the Core i5-1035G1?

The quad-core processor runs at a 1.00 GHz base and can boost a single core to 3.6 GHz for short bursts, giving snappy response in web browsing, office apps and light multitasking.

What practical limits does the USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C port impose on external drives and displays?

The USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C connector operates at 5 Gbps, so external SATA SSDs will be limited by that bus speed, and the port also supports video output for an external monitor.
