ASUS VivoBook 17.3" FHD IPS laptop

The ASUS VivoBook S712JA-WH54 is a 17.3 inch Full HD IPS laptop powered by a 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor with four cores and a 3.6 GHz turbo frequency. It comes with 12GB of DDR4 memory arranged as 4GB onboard plus an 8GB SO-DIMM module. Storage combines a 512GB SATA SSD with a 1TB hard drive. The system ships with Windows 10 Home 64-bit.

Sustained workload on integrated graphics

The Intel UHD integrated graphics share system memory and are cooled by a single fan design typical for this chassis. Under continuous load the processor will throttle from its 3.6 GHz turbo toward the 1.00 GHz base clock as the 45W power supply and 47 WHr battery limit thermal headroom. Expect stable performance for office applications and video playback but reduced frame rates in extended 3D tasks.

Build quality and daily connectivity

The silver chassis measures 16.00 by 10.06 by 0.6 inches and weighs 5.06lb. A full-size backlit keyboard with numeric keypad and a fingerprint reader sit above the touchpad. Ports include one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, a micro SD reader and a headphone microphone combo jack. Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and Bluetooth 5.1 handle wireless duties.

Questions about this item

How loud and warm does the laptop get when the Core i5-1035G1 runs at its 3.6 GHz turbo for long periods?

The 45 W power supply and 3-cell 47 WHr battery indicate a modest thermal envelope; the chassis measures 0.6 in thick and weighs 5.06 lb, so sustained turbo will warm the palm-rest but fan noise stays moderate for typical office workloads.

Which peripherals and cables must I already own to use every port on this S712JA-WH54?

You will need a USB-C cable or adapter for the USB 3.2 Type-C Gen1 port, an HDMI cable for the HDMI output, USB-A devices for the USB 3.2 Gen1 and two USB 2.0 ports, and a micro-SD card for the card reader.

Can I keep using my existing USB 2.0 accessories and external HDMI display with this model?

Yes, the laptop provides two USB 2.0 ports and one HDMI port, so legacy USB 2.0 peripherals and an external monitor connect directly without adapters.
